From the bride: I have a bit of an obsession with Mardi Gras beads caught in trees around town. One afternoon after work, BJ asked if I wanted to go grab a happy hour drink and maybe go see the sculpture garden at City Park before we headed to Tales of the Toddy for some Christmas drinks downtown. I thought it was a little weird to head to the opposite side of the city but just went with it because I was excited to see the garden. We went over and grabbed a to-go cup of win at Swirl wine in Mid-city and headed over to the sculpture garden. We were walking around and came across a large glass Mardi Gras bead in the tree sculpture installation and he took me over to look at it. Next thing I knew, he was down on one knee. At first I thought he was kidding because over the past few months he had joked around with me pretending to get on one knee and tying his shoe or other things like that. But when I felt his hand shaking, I knew it was for real. He went into a very sweet mini-speech ending with “you’re my person, will you marry me?” I of course said yes. His friend secretly caught in on camera. Funny story about that but his friend was getting scoped out by the City Park security guards for hiding in the bushes for so long. We then went on to Tales of the Toddy where all of our friends and family were waiting to congratulate us.
Our most memorable wedding moments:
– Seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle and giggling at each other to keep from crying.
– The loud chainsaw noises and R&B music blaring during the ceremony.
– The best man fumbling over the 3 bags our rings were packed in.
– My dad for the first time in my dress
– Having my dad throw me around like a rag doll for our father/daughter dance and watching our friends and family dance like maniacs with back flips during the reception.
First dance: “Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans”
Wedding cake flavors: Cafe au lait and wedding cake
Groom’s cake: King cake doberge
