Jeffrey and I met when we were 14 years old. He was the boy who lived down the street and just so happened to be best friends with my big brother. We grew up riding our bikes and playing pick-up basketball games with our siblings and all the neighborhood kids. I always wanted him on my team. He was the first boy I fell in love with, and I’m so lucky I get to have him on my team forever.
Jeffrey told me to meet him at the lakefront for dinner with his family one night. When I arrived at the lakefront, I saw him under a huge oak tree. The ground was lit with tea candle filled mason jars in the shape of a heart. He was standing in the middle of the heart in a suit, behind him was a white wooden sign that said “Will you marry me?” He then got down on one knee, said something romantic that I don’t even remember because it was all so emotional, and asked me to marry him. I said yes, gave him a hug, and the next thing we know people are surrounding us on the lakefront applauding. It was a beautiful moment that we will remember forever.
The most memorable moment occurred right after the barn doors opened. Even though the music was playing and our family and friends were surrounding us, we spent that one second before I started walking down the aisle just looking at each other, realizing everything we used to dream of was finally coming true.
