Katie and Ryan’s mutual friend, Aly, double booked herself one day and had made plans with both Katie and Ryan. Lucky for them, she decided to combine her plans, and they all met for dinner and drinks. They had dinner at The Sushi Bar in Edmond, Oklahoma and afterwards met up with some of Katie’s friends at Edna’s for drinks. A few days later, they went on their first official date and have been together ever since!
Ryan was in New Orleans for a few days after Thanksgiving before heading back to Oregon. He and Katie had reservations at Muriel’s for a date night out in the quarter. As they were walking through Jackson Square on their way to dinner, Ryan stopped to give Katie a hug—or so she thought. He pulled one arm away to reach into his pocket to get the ring (Ryan said Katie’s face was priceless) and got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course she said yes! Right as the proposal happened, a few bright lights started flashing, because Ryan had hired a photographer to capture the moment! Afterwards we took photos around the quarter, went to dinner, and then met up with their friends Katie and Mike for celebratory drinks. It was the perfect evening!

Katie – Prior to our wedding, I’ve had many of my newlywed friends remind me to stop for a minute and look around the room to take it all in. I took their advice during the reception. It was amazing to look around and see all of our favorite people in the world in New Orleans celebrating our marriage with us. We were blessed to have guests travel to New Orleans from 15 different states! Guests traveled from Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, California, Washington, Arkansas, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Iowa.
Ryan – My favorite moment of our wedding day was Katie’s surprise for me. We had planned to do our first look at the ceremony venue. Katie switched up our plans and arranged for us to take our first look photos at Jackson Square, which is the same place I proposed. There was a car waiting for me when I walked out of my hotel to head to the venue. My best man put me in the car and handed me note from Katie explaining that she would meet me at the same place I proposed. It was the perfect start to our day together spending a few minutes alone at Jackson Square.
