A word from the bride
How did you two meet? We found ourselves sitting across from one another at a donut shop (classic) sharing the love of Jesus with someone. This was only the second time we had ever met, and yet an instant bond was formed, a connection that stayed with both of us.
We reconnected through our college ministry two years later. On November 1, 2014, we became boyfriend and girlfriend. On January 10, 2015, we became engaged to be married. And on March 20, 2015, we joined as one and became husband and wife.
Our favorite part of our love story, is actually less about us and more about Jesus’ love for us. We love that it is really just a testimony of his goodness. He deserves all the glory for our beautiful story- and it is only the beginning! You can read more about our story on our wedding website here: www.weddingwire.com/catherineanddevin
How did Devin propose? Being the queen of surprises, Devin knew he would have to get creative. I thought I was throwing a surprise birthday party for him. After everyone jumped out and screamed “Happy Birthday!” the apparent lack of surprise on his face confused me. I thought for sure I had him completely fooled… He then turned to me just before getting down on one knee and said, “Little did you know, this was my idea.” I was stunned. It was a joyous and perfect day.
Most memorable moment from the wedding day? Until our wedding day, I had never kissed a man with a mustache, and it was certainly worth the wait. We shared our very first kiss, the kiss that sealed our marriage, on the alter in front of our loved ones. It was certainly one of the best moments of the day and something that I will never forget.
Significance of the square photos on display: Knowing my great love for baths, Devin made a bathtub table for me as a birthday gift in 2014. I took a photo each time I used it. I surprised him with the collection the day before our wedding. He loved it! It is kind of like an abstract timeline of our relationship.
Devin and I are both artists and very passionate people. With a 69 day engagement, we pretty much planned, designed and did a lot ourselves. We built the two 80 ft long tables with the help of some amazing friends. All the decorations were very close to our hearts. From the paintings that were done by my grandmother, to the wall hangings that hung in the hall way of my great grandfather’s house, it was all very special. Everything else, like the flowers, the arch, and food were great symbols of love to us from our family and friends. It was so humbling to have so many people help out to make our day so special. The wedding was such a beautiful celebration of not only our love, but the love of God and our loved ones.
We knew we wanted a party, and we knew God would provide because that is what He promises His children in the Bible. We had a budget of practically $0, a guest list of 325 people, and a word from God that told us to dare to believe in the impossible. We had been told to “be realistic,” but big miracles require audacious faith. Our dream for the wedding was for people to know the love of God is real, and that God still performs miracles today.
