Alex + Sean

0001

Alex and Sean’s Pharmacy Museum wedding was full of LOVE, perfect light, and excellent jazz music. I couldn’t get the smile off of my face. Being around these two is contagious. You can just feel the happiness and true love overflowing from their laughs and smiles. I loved being a part of their love story.

Caroline, one of my beautiful bridesmaids, and I have always loved dinosaurs and Jurassic Park. Since university we’ve had various dino paraphernalia as gifts with one of them being “Felix” the traveling dino. He has come to Hawaii, Vancouver, and Toronto and we try to take photos of him exploring. It only made sense that he would be here on our big day! For an extra touch, Caroline handmade him a tiny tuxedo top, complete with boutonniere!

How did you and Sean meet? We met on Tinder, of all places! Sean isn’t huge on technology so he cut the conversation short and asked to go for a drink at Pidgin in Vancouver. As soon as I walked through the door of the restaurant and saw his big smile, I was pretty smitten. We talked about everything in that first couple hours and we didn’t want the date to end so we had dinner and decided to head to our next location, Wildebeest, which is the restaurant that would be where we went to celebrate our engagement! After that first date, we went on our second, third and fourth back-to- back and never looked back! When you know you know… and we knew!

How did Sean propose? I had gone out with my girlfriends right after work and Sean and I had made plans to go to Wildebeest for cocktails when I got home. I walked through the door in a flurry and said “Hold on! I just need to change my shoes!” and he walked up to me in the kitchen, all funny and with this weird expression on his face. I repeated myself and he said “ummm… just wait…” Sean told me that he had grand plans and that maybe he wanted to do this differently but seeing me here, in our home with Peanut (our little lovebird) made him so happy, that we were his family and that he wanted this to be the rest of his life. He got down on one knee with the most perfect ring in the world and asked me to marry him. In a PILE of tears, of course I said yes! Little did I know that Sean had asked my father for permission a few weeks earlier and he told me that he just couldn’t wait any longer to make me his wife!

Haydel’s Bakery in New Orleans made us the most delicious cake. I still think about it to this day! Almond cake with praline filling on one tier and Irish cream filling on the other (a homage to Sean’s Irish roots).

Bride’s most memorable moments: The whole day was amazing from start to finish. It truly could not have been more US! If I had to pick a couple moments, I would say starting my morning off with my best friends at Café Du Monde. It was just us and a few plates of beignets and we were able to just talk and laugh and feast! They are the most amazing women and knowing how much they supported me and how excited they were just got me so ready for the day. The second line was also the MOST incredible thing ever! It is such a true New Orleans tradition, and I am so happy we got to be a part of it. The Kinfolk Brass Band is seriously amazing and they led us in a parade through the streets to NOLA Restaurant. Since we got married on a Wednesday afternoon, the streets were bustling full of people cheering, and smiled the entire time!

Groom’s most memorable moments: Where do I even start?
Seeing Alex in her dress
When I started my vows and Alex almost broke down in tears
When her dad teared up and so did she
Bourbon with the boys in the morning
The speeches
The food
Trying Pappy van Winkle bourbon for the first time
The first time I saw the look on Alex’s face in the second line
Thinking that I was so lucky that Alex became my wife <3

Why New Orleans? When Sean and I first started dating, we decided to take a trip together and landed in New Orleans. We fell completely in love with this city! The people, the music, the architecture, and the food – oh goodness, the food. When we got engaged, we toyed with the idea of a beach wedding but when we really thought about how we wanted our wedding to look and feel, we were describing New Orleans! It is one of the best cities in the world and we couldn’t wait to share it with our nearest and dearest. Our families came from Vancouver, BC and Nanaimo, BC in Canada and then our amazing bridal party/best friends came from Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Los Angeles!
